Tips for Searching for Japanese Music Videos or Lyrics

Do you ever have trouble finding lyrics or videos to Japanese songs? Here's some tips:

1.)
When you search, it's best to use the song name as it's normally written in Japanese, i.e, try not to use romaji.

2.)
The same goes for the artist's name. Use their name as it's normally spelled in Japanese, and be sure to get the order correct. If you aren't sure, a good place to find this is in Wikipedia.
2a.)
For instance, say you wanted to look up something from "mika nakashima". In Google, type: "mika nakashima wiki". The first result should be her wikipedia page. You will see right at the beginning that her commonly spelled name is 中島美嘉 (nakashima mika).

3.)
When you search for lyrics, it helps to include the words 歌詞 and 漢字. These words are "kashi" (lyrics) and "kanji". You can also include "romaji" or "ローマ字" if you're looking for romaji.

4.) When you search for videos, it can help to include the terms PV or MV. These stand for "promotional video" and "music video". It's what music videos are commonly referred to as in Japan.

5.) Use Google's auto-complete. Just start typing the song name or artist and see what pops up. Usually it's what you're looking for.
